The infiltration of sects like Buddhism (it is not the only one) into Catholicism undoubtedly is a serious matter. It was made possible the moment we lowered our guard and demolished the retaining walls; that is, the moment the truths of our Faith were no longer considered as something intangible; also when the Church opened the door to inexplicable ecumenisms and strange syncretisms. Or to put it clearer, the moment that we thought that all religions are equal or, at least, equally valid, as instruments of salvation. The Unam Sanctam is gone. Today, there are various alternatives available, on sale for people to choose: à la carte and according to each one’s taste. Nevertheless, this is not in the least the gravest problem that afflicts the Church of our times. Now, for example, Catholics must face the delicate and severe problem of the Holy Mass. We are referring here to the hard-fought struggle that is going on in the bosom of Catholicism: the Conciliar Mass, or the Mass of Paul VI, versus the Latin Mass, or the Mass of Saint Pius V – better known, although improperly, as the Tridentine Mass. For the huge majority of the Catholic faithful this problem does not exist as such. They think that the whole issue is but a mere inconsequential dispute between the conservative traditionalists and the post-Vatican II Catholics, who are in favor of progress –both coinciding, nevertheless, in considering themselves as the defenders of the fidelity to the Church. Although this is what the faithful have been made to believe, this approach is the polar opposite of the truth. What is at stake here, although unnoticed by the majority of people, is the important issue of the true meaning of the Holy Mass, and, at a deeper level, the nature of the Redemption and the significance of Christianity itself; no more (and no less). The truth is that there is today, in the bosom of the Church, a ferocious campaign to eradicate the Holy Mass of Saint Pius V and make it disappear for good –although they are careful not to talk about this, and one can only guess their intention to hide away the issue. Whoever thinks that this is an exaggerated statement, he can consult a multitude of poor unfortunate Catholics dispersed here and there, often in isolated groups. They are the ones who obstinately and zealously maintain the principles of what they think the true Faith is, as well as the authentic traditions on which the Church has always lived. They are despised, never listened to or cared of; considered as nostalgic conservatives, they are thought of as both strangers to the alleged spirit of the Council – and even traitors to the Church – and enemies of progress. And yet, encouraged by a disposition directly issued by the Holy Father himself, they try desperately to obtain from their bishops the paltry permission to celebrate or to attend –once a month!—the Holy Mass which the Church has been celebrating for century after century. And the fact that it has never crossed their minds to not be faithful to the Church or to not obey the Hierarchy does not matter at all to the partisans of modernity. To tell the truth, few people have realized that, for example and as far as As for the facilities granted to the faithful for the celebration of this Holy Mass: to the manipulating of the conditions expressed in the Motu Proprio –by augmenting or exaggerating them and even by inventing new ones—we must add the whole series of objections and restrictions as well as the numerous demands that the Shepherds have established. They are the same Shepherds who hastened to proclaim their fidelity to the Holy Father and to the Council, and who now have succeeded at making the mere attempt at celebrating this Holy Mass a heroic task for the most daring only. What is the reason, therefore, for the apparent hatred of the Holy Mass which century after century has fed the spiritual life of so many saints and numerous martyrs and, ultimately, of so many millions of Christians? The answer is not easy. Nevertheless, something seems to be abundantly clear: it is not easy to find a purely human explanation for this case. There are no logical or reasonable arguments that justify this campaign which is even being encouraged by High Ranking Members of the Church. All of which seems to point to the fact –should we want to find at least the beginning of a reasonable explanation, even at the risk of stirring up skepticism and mockery from many people—that it is expedient for one to think of the influence and work of the superhuman Powers of Darkness. After all, they have never ceased to wage war against Christ and His Church. (To Be Continued) |
